You wont be able to submit the quest back to drunkard anthony, IF you only had the survival compass with you then, nor will you be able to abandon the quest to re-do it reason being :

You'll need to have all the remaining quest items in your inventory as well for example, the Translation of Diary & Righteous Document etc...
